Hair Like A Fox // Homemade Eggshell Calcium

Calcium status may be one of the most important factors in premature hair loss. You can decrease inflammation (IL-6), parathyroid hormone (PTH), and prolactin with this homemade supplement.

What about the bacteria or excrement that may be in the egg carton from before, when you put the sterilized eggshells back in there? Just wondering

How long can the egg shells be sitting around before the boiling process? A few days or a week?

My egg shells still have some egg on the inside after using the eggs. Is this a problem, or is that what the boiling process takes care of?

Thanks,
Dan

I did this for my dogs and my garden- why didn't I think of it for myself? duh. Thank you.

Another way of using the calcium from eggshells is to soak them in vinegar or any kind. The vinegar absorbs it and makes it into a liquid supplement, and is easier to consume than powder, and is suitable for anyone who tolerates vinegars well.

Hi Danny,

Thanks for your resources and blog - much appreciated as a portal to understanding Ray Peat's work.

Can I ask how you eat the powdered eggshells? It is fairly gritty to sprinkle on food, and soaking it in vinegars or acids, like I've seen suggested elsewhere seems to convert it into calcium citrate, which I recall you mentioning was not an advisable form based on Dr. Peat's writings (do you happen to have a reference for this quote as well by the way? Would like to hear the reasoning behind it).

@Mark,

I will "parachute" them by adding some liquid to my mouth, dropping them on top of the liquid and gulping.

I think the distinction is that the supplemental form of calcium citrate was harmful, I don't think he was speaking about whole foods. It was one of his interviews with KMUD I believe, I'm not sure which one.

@AK,

Danny mentions bringing the egg shells TO boil, so I'd leave them AT boil temp. for no more than 60 seconds.

@Danny,

Any idea of how much mg a tsp or Tbsp would contain?
