The huge marketing campaign for resveratrol will directly affect people’s health adversely, but it is also polluting the culture by reinforcing the doctrine that torpor, slowing the life process, is beneficial.
Leave your thyroid, fructose, and salt at home my friends, because we're going on a race! A race to torpor.
News is that the Go-Veg!-CRON team has taken the lead, but second place is anyone's game.
Team SAD is travelling there on a monorail from HELL, but team Ance$tral-Wi$dom is close behind using next-level mTOR-lowering-protein-restriction, 36-hour intermittent fasts, and sub-zero-cold-thermogenesis that will assure a photo finish!
Hehe.
Dr. Kurt Harris was the first one I had ever heard use the phrase "theories of everything" (TOE). When he said it, I instantly realized I was, and always had been, in love with the idea.
Without a TOE you try in vain to understand how the pieces fit, you stare into the cracks between the data, until the cracks become chasms and the chasms become an abyss into which you stare until it looks deep into your own soul, and then you go insane.
The blogosphere itself has adopted numerous TOE over time: the war on insulin, the war on fructose, not enough fasting, not enough fat soluble vitamins, too much protein, you're fucked because you have a broken metabolism, unsaturated fatty acid deficiency, and is currently stuck in-between food reward and the nuances of the gut biome.
I predict that the next battle, is not how much carbohydrate, fat, and protein your diet contains, but whether it's pushing you into a state of hibernation:
"When an animal such as a squirrel approaches hibernation and is producing less carbon dioxide, the decrease in carbon dioxide releases serotonin, which slows respiration, lowers temperature, suppresses appetite, and produces torpor." -Raymond Peat, PhD
Why do I think this?
After coaching a hundred or so people (many former paleos/ancestral dieters) I can say that the trend of low pulse, low CO2, high serotonin, high PTH, high reverse T3, and high prolactin is either not helped by an ancestral/paleo diet or is caused by an ancestral/paleo diet, and that is a big problemo.
Oxidative energy vs. hibernation, leave your thoughts in the comments. Back to editing The Peat Whisperer.
